WIJSF and Lauderhill Jazz

On October 24, 2010, Women in Jazz South Florida, Inc. presented Parkway Middle School of the Performing Arts Jazz Band led by Melton Mustafa, Jr. and Vocal Ensemble led by Lorna Lesperance, through a grant from Broward Cultural Division, and sponsored by the City of Lauderhill, Lauderhill Chamber of Commerce, Dwight Stephenson Construction and Total Orthopedic. The event was attended by WIJSF members, chamber members, vendors, including the Gold Coast Jazz Society and Jamaica Air, plus a multitude of Lauderhill residents and those from other cities around the county.

Also in concert were Eugene Grey & Company, Sons of My-Stro and Joan Cartwright & Jazz Hotline.

Lorna Lesperance conducts Parkway Middle School Vocal Ensemble

On January 25, 2012, Parkway Middle School Jazz Band and Vocal Ensemble will perform the music of community composers, through a second grant to WIJSF from Broward Schools Student Enrichment in the Arts (SEAS). The compositions, arranged by Dr. Malcolm Black (BCC Jazz Band Leader for 20 years), are by Joan Cartwright, Jus’ Cynthia, Art Wilson, Robin Avery and Paul Banman.

This concert will take place at Broward Center for the Performing Arts from 10 – 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Attendees must be on a guest list for these performances that are closed to the public and attended by students from Broward Schools and their teachers.
